Whether you drive a Chevy, Ford, or Ram diesel pickup, one thing is certain - you’re bound to get a flat tire eventually. At Midway Diesel LLC in Eloy, AZ, we’re here to help. Here’s what to do.
If you get a flat tire on the road, don’t keep driving - pull over, safely out of the way of traffic, where other drivers can see you clearly. The loss of steering you’ll experience isn’t the only issue; you also risk damaging expensive steering and suspension components, as well as the rim, if you try to continue driving on a flat.
Next, you either have to call a truck, tire service, or put on the spare yourself. If you opt for the latter, just be careful - if your truck is modified or lifted, use good judgement. You don’t want to push the limits of your jack to get the spare on.
On flat solid ground, break the lug nuts free. Place the jack under the car in the factory specified position, and begin lifting the truck. If the jack begins to lean or looks otherwise compromised, start over and make sure the truck is well supported. Remember never to put any part of your body under the truck or in the fender well while it’s supported by the jack.
Finish removing the lug nuts, and have the spare ready. Install it in reverse order, let the truck back down, and don’t forget to tighten the lug nuts in a cross pattern with the tire back on solid ground. You’re ready to go, just make sure you get the factory wheel reinstalled with a new tire as soon as possible.
